Spring Nature Spirit?

The other day, just before noon, I went outside barefoot. It was sunny and beautiful, the air was completely still. I walked on the grass and made my way down the path toward the woods and brook just beyond the hill. That was when I noticed something quite interesting: About thirty feet ahead of me were six or seven butterflies (an estimate). They were flying around each other, dancing and playing in the air, some of them landing momentarily, then taking off and flying around while the others rested. It looked like they were playing a game of tag, all generally moving in the same direction.

I thought something like “wow, this is really amazing and beautiful to watch,” then shortly after that, realized that they were in fact not butterflies but actually dried up leaves which were caught in some sporadic, isolated, vortex wind current, which caused them to move in an orderly, graceful fashion – a collectively intelligent, life-like manner.  This, along with the shape, size and color of the leaves, it all added up to a perfect visual deception. Nonetheless it was still amazing and beautiful, perhaps even more so!

I watched as they moved together and crossed the path in front of me. They went down the small hill a few feet beyond, and into the woods, until the last leaf vanished behind some trees!

Never have I seen anything quite like it.
